Game 112 - vs. Climbing the Hill|
The 2007 summer season had gotten off to a lackluster start for the Os. The C- league had been temporarily relocated to the Los Altos gym and its “Trojan Pride” (gag!). After a terrible first game against Beer Run, expectations were low for the matchup against Climbing the Hill, the champion of the spring season. The Os brought an all-time 2-7 record against Climbing the Hill into the game (although that included the Os’ first ever win). No one expected the game that would ensue.
Behind an offensive explosion like nothing ever seen in the history of the Os, the Os played a game as an offensive juggernaut. Ten minutes into the first half the Os had already equaled their scoring output from their entire previous game. By halftime, the Os had built a 33-12 advantage, the 33 points being an all-time high score for the first half (and the Os’3rd highest scoring half ever – although it would drop to fourth by the time the second half was over).
By the time the dust settled in the second half, the Os had set a plethora of team records: most points - 67 (surpassing the previous high of 54), greatest margin of victory – 28 (surpassing the previous high of 15), most threes made – 9 (tying previous mark), and most assists – 14 (replacing previous record of 13). For the first time ever, the Os managed to have 3 players score in double digits.
Although every O played solidly, the Ophy voting was surprising one-sided. Lil’ Joe could not muster a vote despite his career-high tying 17 points and 4 assists (Os watchers suggested that his cherry picking on a basket may have cost him support). Roster Guard garnered a vote with his 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Steve-O got a vote for his work carving up the inside of the defense with 7 points and 11 rebounds. However, in an upset, And None took home the Ophy with 6 votes for his 20 points (only the 4th 20 point game in Os history) and 11 rebounds.
