Game 113 - vs. Sanchos|
The Os continued their strong offensive showings unfortunately coming up one basket short of the victory. The game was a back and forth struggle with the two teams exchanging leads. The Sanchos, currently tied for the league lead, were able to grab the victory with some strong outside shooting and key free throws.
Perhaps the Os were distracted by the paparazzi. The Os took the next step in this game, finally getting the press coverage needed to get on the NBA’s radar. With a Ventura County Star photographer in attendance, the Os almost pulled off the miraculous comeback.
Trailing by 7 late the Os managed to cut the lead to one. They then needed the ball back with a mere 5 seconds left in the game and got it when the referee ruled that the Sancho attempting the inbound pass had step over the line. The Os, now with a chance to win, called a time out and went to the white board to draw up a play (normally guaranteeing that the play will not be run). The three pass play led to an open look, which came up just short possibly due to the pass being a half rotation short of what was needed.
The solid team effort was highlighted by several stellar performances. Steve-O hit a career-high 4 free throws (without a miss) and pulled in 8 rebounds, garnering him 2 Ophy votes. And None received 3 Ophy votes for his continuing solid play with 14 points and 9 rebounds (even though he was seemingly fouled on every other play inside). However, Roster Guard managed to extend his Ophy lead, winning his world record holding sixth Ophy. His 20 points, 3 assists and all around solid play gave the Os the lift they needed. No one could hold his missed buzzer-beater against him… Or could they? Bwah ha ha ha!
